What is WAP? Why it is used?

Answer:

 

Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is anbsp;technical standard for accessing information over a mobile wireless network. A WAP browser is a web browser   mobile devices such as mobile phones  that uses the protocol. WAP is based on layered architecture. The WAP protocol suite is similar to that of the OSI network model.

 

 

WAP protocol consists of different layers on of them is Wireless Application Environment (WAE) whose main objective is to provide an interoperable environment to build services in wireless space. It covers system architecture relating to the user agents, networking schemes, content formats, programming languages and shared services based on WWW technologies. WAE comprises of multiple components to provide services like:

  • Wireless markup language(WML)
  • WML script
  • User agent-the browser or a client program
  • Wireless telephony application
  • WAP push architecture
  • WAP supports different types of bearer network like: GSM, CDMA,PHS etc.
